i’e just bought a new horse who has sweet itch we have given her an injections, feed her garlic, hose her down daily, cover in creams and lots of other things but she still scratches which i think is more of a habbit than her being itchy anyway she lives out all year round and wanted to put her in a rug. i was just wondering if she would become over heated in the hot weather i live in u.k so it not that hot but in the hot days would she over heat and become hot ???

Fly sheets are all made of a mesh-type material, so it can actually keep a horse cooler because it keeps the sun off them, while being very breathable. I wouldn’t use a regular turn-out sheet, but a fly sheet would be completely fine. you know, the boett blanket is one of the best (if not the best) blankets on the market for sweet itch. it’s actually made over in the UK… http://www.sweet-itch.co.uk/boett.html I’d love to get one but i can’t afford it. if it’s in your prove range, it would be a great investment!
I dont think she needs a heavy blanket, but a fliy sheet, like others have said. It would be much lighter than a rug and keep the uv and hot sunlight off of her and in turn keep her cool and keep her coat from dulling, which is a plus
