Hi
I have a 13 week old dalmatian puppy. She has been amazing so far (we have only had her just over a week) she has been shockingly easy to house train. She goes outside for all her toilet and just has a puppy pad down at night which she has 1 wee on.
The thing is all of the downstairs of our house (she doesn’t go upstairs yet) is laminite and tile. And we have a large rug in the living room. When we went round to my dads house the other day (he has carpet in the living areas and tiled in the kitchen she (to my horror) weed on the carpet. Then when I let her come upstairs in our house while I was doing chores she weed on the carpet upstairs. I put her straight outside on both occassions.
Is is because she is on hard floor most of the time that she thinks carpet is OK to pee on or is it something else?
She won’t pee downstairs on the floor in our house anymore, how do I housetrain her on carpet? Do I just need to spend time with her upstairs and do it the same as how I housetrained her downstairs?
Thanks!

skip the puppy pads…You’re only teaching your dog that its ok to pee in the house.
At 13 weeks old your puppy is nowhere close to being completely housebroken…you should have been more diligent, especially when you visit other people’s houses.
Same with yours…if she has accidents upstairs, put a baby gate on the steps and DO NOT allow her upstairs untill she’s completely housebroken.
Ditch the pee pad and take your dog outside late at night and early in the morning.
I would say it is because she isn’t fully housebroke yet. A 13 week old puppy is still learning & IS capable of having accidents. Just keep up with training & be consistent, she will be fully housebroke before you know it.
Oh yes & stop using the pads, they will only cause confusion.
the carpet is new and she needs to be taught not to wee on it. just use the same routine you used down stairs and she will learn quickly. She sounds ery smart and is learning very quickly
I had a similar problem with my dog when I was house training him. I figured that my dog had learnt that peeing on the the shiny floor was a bad thing but somehow he thought that it was ok to pee anywhere else. he hadn’t quite got the idea that he can’t pee anywhere inside, that took a little longer to get him to understand.
I I were you I would start letting you puppy upstairs but supervise her closely, and take her outside regularly. keep reinforcing the idea that going to the toilet outside is a good thing. she will eventually get the right idea.
